birthday, election, illnesses and hives

all of these things have been going on since my last halloween post.  i feel like we just can't catch a break over here.  except for my birthday, which included a surprise birthday dinner planned by my sister and andrew, nothing good has happened in the hess household.  and even my birthday was a downer because it was on election day, it rained and my candidate lost.  boo, boo and boo.  that's all i have to say about that!

as for the illnesses and hives, now that's been fun.  i kid.  it has been anything but fun.  both the boys have a never ending cough and snotty noses.  i took brooks to the doctor the monday before halloween.  as i was leaving the parking lot of the doctor's office with a prescription for brooks i got a call from the clinic at carson's school (the nurse and i are on a first name basis-i think carson is her favorite patient) and he is coughing and has a fever.  so i pick up carson from school and drive right back to the doctor's office with carson who also gets a prescription for an antibiotic.  nine days later on said antibiotic carson decides to do this...

excuse his rib sticking out in this picture.  it was a weird angle and he is just so skinny he can't help it.
poor carson

yep, hives.  all over his tiny body.  he has decided to be allergic to amoxicillion.  so now, on top of coughing uncontrollably he is covered in hives.  itchy, red, splotchy, yucky hives.  even though he has been on this antibiotic before he has now decided to be allergic.  now we have added to his medicine a steroid and benadryl.

and if you think it stops there, it doesn't.  i couldn't make this all up if i tried.  as if mondays aren't hard enough, at 10 AM as i was trying to wrangle 15 3 year olds out to the hallway for our incliment weather drill i get a call from the clinic yet again.  carson has had a tiny "accident" where i think he though he had to toot and a little more came out.  these steroids are tearing up his stomach.  he also is running a low grade fever and is sleepy (thank you benadryl).  oh, and he still has hives.  this is not what i needed on a monday morning.  back to the doctor we go.  so we are now on zyertac, benadryl, a steroid and cough medicine.

and to top it all off, andrew and i are both sick.  no joke.  but let's be honest there is no time for the mom to be sick.  so if i could ask those of you who still check in on us to maybe say a little prayer that we can make it the rest of the week without a call from our clinic friend i would greatly appreciate it.  a lot.  thanks.

with my birthday dinner girls :) husbands were not pictured.
Thank you for a great surprise birthday dinner!

thank goodness andrew was able to drag me out of the house, i was ready to put my pajamas on and call it a day!
❤

our third trip to the doctor in two weeks.  you can see some of his hives on his sweet little face.  my goodness, he is still so cute even when he is sick.  what a gift from God.
Earning our frequent flyer points at the doctor's office. At least he's still smiling!
