179 to go

carson's first day of kindergarten was a success (with one tiny hiccup)!  he was such a superstar and walked in to his room, put up his bag and sat down at his seat like he's being doing it all his life.  we were the first ones in the room (mind you that there are only 6 kids in his class.  remember he is in a smaller class setting for his curriculum part of the day and then he goes to a regular ed classroom for specials and lunch and hopefully that time will increase as he can handle it) so once andrew and i were satisfied that he was setteled in ok we left.  not before he gave me the sweetest little kiss and told me he loved me.  he always seems to know what i need.  i actually did not cry at all.  i think i was so wound up that i didn't even have time to.  being a former teacher (and now a preschool teacher!) i knew the quicker the better when leaving.  i did sit in the parking lot for about 30 minutes waiting to make sure all was ok.  and believe it or not, it was.

except for the one phone call i got at 1:00 in the afternoon from the clinic.  "hello, mrs. hess?  this is the clinic at fort daniel elementary."  definitely not what you want to hear on the first day of school.  carson had fallen on the way to the playground and bumped his head.  i think they were just being overly cautious which is fine with me.  once they get used to him they will know that falling is just a part of carson's day sometimes.  he falls.  he gets back up.  i found a quote the other day on pinterest that sums up my little man.  "fall seven times.  stand up eight."  it also helped that they were on their way to the playground which was motivation for carson to suck it up and say that he was fine.  so after assuring the nurse that all was ok they took him back outside.  he just has to get used to all the walking.  his little legs work 10 times harder to keep up and i think by the end of the first day he was just beat.  he'll catch up though, it just takes him a bit longer.

and as i said, i was at the school ready to pick him up in the first round of cars.  he did have a little entourage walk him out.  both his teachers wanted to reassure me he had a fantastic day but that he was really tired.

the best part of the day was picking him up and seeing his sweet little face.  when i asked him if he liked it he smiled and said, "yes, it was fun!"  we'll see how happy he is when i go wake him up in the morning for day 2!

i took some pics of the boys this weekend.  kind of a "last weekend as a 'little' kid" photo shoot for carson.  i got some really cute ones of both of them but here were some of my favs of carson.  i'll share b's and the ones together later this week.

stop it.  how can he be so grown up?

and another shout out to pinterest for this idea.  too cute.

thank you all for the sweet e-mails, Facebook messages, texts, and phone calls today.  it really helped knowing that so many people were thinking of us today.  now, on to conquer day 2.  lord help me.

HOORAY! HOORAY! HOORAY!
You ALL did it. It will get easier now, at least for a while. Brooks will be so much easier, but you have some time before you need to worry about that.
Love and hugs,
