a lot going on

we've been so busy around here and sometimes i forget to update the blog. it gets hard between the potty training, brooks being especially clingy, bo being especially needy, and every day stuff going on, to get a few minutes to sit down and get on the computer. sorry, i will try to be better! like i said, there is a lot going on. i figured i would give the potty training a try with carson. i felt like since he would be going to school in just a few weeks he should at least know what the potty looks like. i'm not a mom who is overly worried about potty training. i always figured that when he was ready he would do it. plus, because of his muscle stiffness it is probably going to be a little more difficult for him so i never felt a sense of urgency to potty train him, until now. all of the sudden summer is over and he is going to school in september. i was supposed to be working on the potty all summer. ummm, that didn't happen. whenever i would ask carson if he wanted to go on the potty he quickly replied, no. i tried just putting him on it a few times and ended up with tears. so, i put it on the back burner.

well, now it's time to move it to the front of the list. those of you who know me well, know that i am not a very patient person (quit laughing those of you who know me) and i like instant gratification. potty training is in no way instant, at least not with carson. so 3 days into it we have successfully pee'd twice in the potty. both times he's very excited he did it and that he gets his candy but really, i think he could care less overall. i haven't gotten to the point of putting him in regular underwear and letting him wet himself just yet, but i have a feeling that may be what it takes, we'll see. if anyone out there has suggestions, feel free to give them to me because this is some hard stuff!

right before the beginning of potty training andrew and i took a quick trip to charleston, south carolina. it was a great chance for us to get away and hang out, just the two of us. thanks so much to andrew's parents and aunt who kept the boys and bo for us. it's always nice to not have to worry about what is going on at home. despite the torrential downpours we had while in charleston we had a great time. it's such a nice town with so much to do. we walked around downtown, ate great food and spent a few hours at the beach. just what i wanted to do!

we also had a visitor from texas, aunt cameron! she came in for a long weekend and the boys loved seeing her. sadly, we don't see her enough, maybe if she moved back home :)

aunt cameron and carson. notice the awesome clubhouse she is drawing for him, much better that the ones i slap down on the paper over and over again

crazy kid

We got Ryan potty trained by letting him aim for Cheerios. He thought that was a blast! Good luck with your big boy!

You can use a timer (egg timer, on your stove, etc) and when it goes off, it's time to go try!

I just got my 3 yr old son potty trained since April-- I keep a basket of books in the bathroom-- we also ran the water and let him drink water to get the urge to go!
