water!

the boys both love to play in water of any kind so aunt megan got brooks a water table for his birthday. it is a big hit. it's so nice to be able to fill it up and sit outside for a bit. of course we are slathered up in sunscreen because they are both so fair skinned. brooks is worse than carson is since he's still on one of his meds that make him sensitive to the sun. which i forgot to report to all you blog readers that we did have a heart check up this past monday and all went well. dr. southerland is very pleased with how brooks is doing. his ekg is still considered to be abnormal but it probably will always be that way because of the damage to the left side of his heart. other than that, and that he didn't decrease any of his meds :( we got all A's from the cardiologist! yay b!

the boys also both had their 3 year old and 1 year old check up this past week. they both had blood drawn. carson screamed, brooks just sat there. then it was time for the weigh in. carson's goal was 24 pounds by 3. he's 23.8 pounds. for the life of me i can not get this kid to put on weight. we feed him the fattiest foods we can think of and still, nothing. it's so frustrating! but, at least his doctor doesn't have me stressed about it. he is actually on the charts for a 3 year old for his height. he's in the 10%. at least he made the actual charts for something. his doctor calls his weight chart the "carson chart" but the good news is he is pretty consistent ant on that chart. he has (knock on wood) never lost weight. so we will just continue to pump him full of fatty foods. i'm sure one day when he is in high school i will never remember this eating battle with him, i sure hope so! she also mentioned potty training him. there is another battle of the wills. unfortunately, carson is winning that one right now, too! he is adamant about not wanting to go on the potty. i'm just going to put him in the yard for an entire day naked. maybe that would do it?

brooks had a weight goal of 20 pounds by 1. he's 18.14 pounds. i'm also baffled by this one. brooks eats everything that is not nailed down to the floor. he screams at us through dinner if we don't give him what we have. he was in the 5% for weight and 50% for height. so my kids won't be football linebackers. oh well. i didn't want them to do that anyway!

I think I mentioned in an earlier post that my Emma Grace was a 25-week preemie. She was never on the traditional chart until she was three years old. She always had her own chart below the chart. She always moved laterally or upward, even if it was a tiny bit. She was only 14 pounds at 1-yr and that included the "avocado diet" prescribed by Dr. Leigh! I just took her for her 7-yr old check-up and she only weighs 44 pounds. She's only 18th %-tile but she's still moving in the right direction. Hang in there! It's frustrating when they're on their own time-table like that. But the good news is that he's thriving! They both are precious boys and look great! Have fun with the water table!

My nephew was born 2 weeks late at 6+ pounds. I think he's around 30 pounds now at 5 years old - so you know, maybe that's just how Carson is!
