A Good Day
Cooper had another big day today. His infection levels went down to a 10 and he was extubated! Dr. Leigh wants to see how he does on the SiPap which is the same breathing machine that Carson is on. When I left them tonight Cooper's oxygen level was at a 29%. He was also able to start feeding again, just 2 mL every 3 hours but we have to start somewhere. We also got word that if he stays stable enough, Cooper will go to Scottish Rite for his VAD on Monday. I'll be glad once he has this done so I know that his head feels better. We saw such improvements in Carson when he had it done some I'm hoping for the same effect on Cooper. Keep your fingers crossed that he is able to go.
Carson had a pretty uneventful day. He had a few episodes where his heart rate drops and his breathing becomes shallow but so far he has been able to correct himself. As long as he can do that he's OK. It's when they have to keep stimulating him so that he will breathe when we have problems. Earlier today when I was sitting in the chair in between their beds I heard this faint crying sound. I kept looking around to see what baby was crying when I realized it was Carson! He was pitching a fit inside his bed, arms and legs going, back arching. It was the cutest thing I have seen. A preemie tantrum! Now I want to see Cooper as feisty as his brother.
A note on the baby's breath. Bo was chasing a lizard around the deck and it jumped in to the planter Andrew had planted the seeds in. Needless to say, dirt was everywhere. I tried to scoop it all back in, we'll see if it can still grow!

What a joy to hear your son crying! I know that's not the typical reaction to a baby's cry, but I am sure you loved it! We'll keep watching the blog and praying. Thanks for keeping us all updated!
Love Ya,
