Carson's Pacifier; Cooper's Update

Yesterday evening we went in to visit and noticed that Carson had a pacifier in his mouth. They had given it to him earlier in the day and he had not let go of it all afternoon. When we turned him over he tried so hard to suck on it but it was too big for him and he couldn't keep it in his mouth. It was the cutest thing to see him trying so hard to keep it in there. Here are some pictures of him with it. Also, he has a bruise on his face from the tape holding his ventilator on. It looks better today.

My little buddy Cooper had to go back on his blood pressure meds last night. He was on a level of 10 when I left them tonight. I'm hoping that he doesn't have to go up too much more to keep his blood pressure stable. The respiratory nurse did tell me today that the MAY extubated him tomorrow. He was down pretty low on his settings and they thought they would give it a try tomorrow. We always get the disclaimer though that he MAY have to go back on the ventilator or that they MAY not be able to extubate tomorrow. It's all up to the little guy. Tonight when I was up there he was making these sad little faces like he was trying to scream and cry but nothing would come out. It breaks my heart to see him laying in there. I just want to take him out and hold him like a normal mother can do and tell him everything is going to be OK. Instead I am stuck peeking at him through a plexiglass box. He really has been through so much in the last month. I just pray that we are making strides in the right direction and only small setbacks are ahead of us. No more giant leaps in the wrong direction. I'll try to let everyone know tonight what his blood pressure medicine levels are once I talk to their nurse.

We will pray for Cooper and his blood pressure too. Wow, when you look at how big the pacifier looks in Carson's mouth, it makes you realize just how small they are. So little, but still so tough! They are in our thoughts and prayers!

Dear Lauren and Andrew,

What adorable pictures of Carson and his pacifier! Everyone at work enjoyed seeing the video that Grandma Carol sent, too. Hope Cooper made progress overnight and you can hold him soon.

Sending much love,
Lisa

They are both looking so much better Lauren! They are definitely making strides in the right direction. I know it's frustrating that they live in a box - but just being there helps them, and they know you're there. So many babies don't even have that - yours are truly fortunate to have such a support group!

They look like they're getting bigger (relatively speaking anyway - that pacifier is too funny!). It's hard to remember how small they still are in the photos. How much do they weigh now?
