A Long Night

After several days of being steady and stable Cooper decided to change that. Last night (Saturday) we did our regular check before bed around 11:30 pm. That's when we found out Cooper wasn't doing well. I was shocked because he had been doing so well, in fact they were talking about weening him off his ventilator. Anyway, his nurse told us that she wasn't quite sure what was going on, just that he didn't look good and his blood pressure was dropping. We called back around 1:00 am and he was still doing the same and they were waiting to hear from the doctor. Around 2:30 am the doctor called and told us that Cooper has some sort of infection, they just aren't sure what kind. So, after not much sleep we were at the hospital most of the morning and afternoon today. We met with Dr. Leigh, one of our neonatoligists ( I have no idea how to spell that one), who told us that they were giving him every antibiotic they can for now and trying to get his blood pressure up, but ultimately it is up to Cooper to fight off the infection and get better.

We left the grandma's there because the last time that seemed to work. I'm a little disoriented due to lack of sleep so I came home to try to rest, ha! how much rest can someone get when their 2 pound son is trying to fight off an infection. Most people only have to deal with colds and ear infections with their babies and mine is fighting infections inside an incubator. Life doesn't really seem fair right now.

On the flip side, Carson was sleeping quietly for now. I think they know when one is sick the other needs to step it up because mom and dad can only deal with one at a time for now. I'll check back and let everyone know what is going on in a little bit...

Hang in there, guys! We check in several times a day as I am sure many others do. Our emotions go up and down with the boys' progress.

Love,
Jeff (and Lisa, who is also writing)

Dear Lauren and Andrew,

"Not fair" is an understatement. How awful that Cooper has an infection. I can't begin to imagine what you are going through... We will double and triple and quadruple our prayers for all of you. I'm so glad your parents are there to help you, too. We love you all, Lisa and Jeff

We're checking in here in Ohio, too--and sending you all the love there is for those little boys. Keep some of the love for you, too and know it's okay to do things to take care of yourselves.
I don't know that this helps, but I told my dear friend Karen about you and the boys. She had a premiee 2-lb little girl 20+ years ago, and she is all grown up now and going to graduate school. Miracles happen--keep holding on and know that all of us are rooting for you.

Love,
Rachel, James and Dash

This is Uncle Lawrence. So scary to learn that Cooper has an infection. These little guys are fighting to get healthy and get out of those incubators, and now this. I know they want to be with the two of you, and I am sure they will soon. We think about them and you all the time. The staff members at Lehbros limited are also following the progress we report.
Love, Lawrence
