I called this morning to do my usual morning check of the boys and Cooper's nurse told me that they were going to let me hold him today! I thought he was weeks away from doing this but he seems to be tolerating things well and they wanted to let me hold him. Poor little guy is still kind of swollen but he is starting to look more like himself. I held him for over an hour and it was wonderful. After I held him they weighed him and I took a picture of him naked on the scale. I'm sure he'll love that one when he is older!
Carson is still just chilling in his incubator. He had kicked out of his snugglie and was playing with his tubes as usual. Of coarse we can't go too long without getting some news from someone. The NP told me that they will be scanning their brains again tomorrow morning and they may have to go to Scottish Rite to have a shunt put in to relieve any pressure from fluid on their brains. So needless to say, I will be a nervous wreck until I hear back about those results. Fortunately, we have family who is connected to the hospital they would go to (thanks cousin Kelly Marshall!) and can make sure they are taken care of. But for now, I'm going continue my high from holding Cooper and knowing Carson is doing well. We'll just pray for good results tomorrow.

I've been checking in every day to see how all of you are doing--keep hanging in there! The boys are just precious, and I am so very glad you are getting to hold them. There's just nothing better!
Love to all of you from way up North,
Rachel, James and Dash
Love, Aunt Jane and (for) Uncle Tim

We have been following the boys
progress, as Courtney gave me the
website for your blog. They are in
our thoughts and prayers always. They must be very strong, and they are "adorable". Take care - say "hi" to your mom and dad. Love,
Debbie and Bill Habas
I'm so glad to read your good update. I can really relate to your feeling of being afraid to get excited because you're waiting for the other shoe to drop. You don't want to jinx anything. I remember at one point when Madeline was really struggling, saying "I can't do this any more! I'm sick of praying!!" My Aunt emailed me that night and said that it was OK to feel the way I did...When you don't feel like you can do it...that's when your friends and family kick in and do it (pray) for you. Please know that there are ALOT of us out here that "have your back".
Hang in there. I bet the NICU is starting to feel like home now. Those nurses are awesome. Even now that Madeline is home, I find myself missing some of them and wondering how they are doing. Whenever we return to Minnesota, we go up to the PICU to see them. They are always so excited to see her. They truly love kids.
Give those boys a gentle hug from us. Harriet sends her love and prayers also....she's tried to post a comment but is too technologically challenged. :)
By the way, I think you look GREAT in your pictures. If you get really worn down, like me, you can always get yourself a baseball cap. I always wore the same one in the hospital and now when we have a tough day or are in a hurry I'll put it on. Whenever Madeline sees it she says "Bye Bye???" LOL....guess I'm wearing it a little too much.
Take care!!!
Caroline
You look gorgeous with your Mommy!!!! Yes, she will try to embarrass you with that picture someday by showing it to your fiancée, but don't worry...your fiancée will be absolutely charmed!!!!
We are pulling for you with your new scans.
Sending lots and lots of love to you and Carson, and your Mum and Dad, too:-)
Love,
Aunt Lisa

Nancy Bendinger just told me about your blog and that you had had the boys. Girl, please know that I am praying, praying, praying for you all. That poem that your cousin wrote was just the sweetest thing. I can't imagine what you all must be going through. I have a feeling that your precious boys are going to be a-ok. I can't wait to meet them and tell them War Eagle! Take care,
Lindsay Draney
(Wedgworth--I'm never sure if people know my married name, you know? :)
I am so happy to hear and read that you are getting hold time with your beautiful boys. There is nothing better than a mother's love....Daddy's too, Andrew. Oh, and Grandmom's. I can just picture Eileen and Carol rockin' and talking to the boys!
All the pictures are wonderful but the one of mommy's and baby's hand is so beautiful. Thank you for continuing to update the pictures and progress.
God Bless the Hess Family, Kay
Nancy forwarded me your blogspot address so I could check up on the boys. I am just so amazed at your strength- you are such an excellent mother and your boys are lucky to have such wonderful parents as you and Andrew. You are in my thoughts and prayers- Amy Glass Piedmont
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!
We are all sitting here on Grandma's computer looking at the pitures of the twins. Grandma would like for someone to tell Cooper and Casen that she has now seen them in the nude. She can not wait to share a fresh pot of beans with them. We all think that Andrew and Lauren look great and are natural parents!
Lots of Love and happy thoughts!
