b's heart anniversary

three years ago today things were quite different for us.  we were at egleston waiting to hear from the surgeon that brooks's heart had started beating on it's own again.  our 4 month old baby was hooked up to so many machines, wires, and medicines and looked unrecognizable to us.

now we have a very active 3 year old who never seems to run out of energy.  people don't believe me when i tell them that he has had open heart surgery and if not for that zipper scar that he wears like a badge of honor you would never know.

here's to you brooks, our lives were forever changed when you gave us a little scare but then proved everyone wrong and continue to do so every day of your very busy life.  love you, b!

three years ago.  i never get used to seeing this picture and can hardly believe that was my brooks.  as a parent i think you go into survivor mode and don't allow yourself to see what is really in front of you. only later could i really see the severity of our situation.
